Walter Van Tilburg Clark (August 3, 1909 – November 10, 1971) was an American author, short story essayist, and instructor. He positions as one of Nevada's most recognized artistic figures of the twentieth century, and was the main inductee into the 'Nevada Writers Hall of Fame' in 1988. Two of his books, The Ox-Bow Incident and The Track of the Cat, were made into films. As an essayist, Clark showed himself to utilize the natural materials of the western adventure to investigate the human mind and to raise profound philosophical issues.
